The society and social environment in which we grow up play a significant role in shaping our personality. As we construct our personalities, we create a series of stories from memories and moments. These stories, while unique to the individual, also play a role in shaping one's character. Our internal inquiries, conflicts, sense of belonging, beliefs, search for meaning, and many other aspects of our attitudes towards life are intertwined with our stories. The artist suggests that life itself has no inherent meaning, and it is the individual who gives it meaning. From this perspective, we see that the artist's works sometimes touch upon their own stories and at other times interact with stories from various cultures.

Damla Çetinkaya bases her artistic practice on storytelling. She is in a position to blend the traditional with the contemporary, creating and presenting new works. In her solo exhibition titled "SELF" she invites us to question the essence of stories and how profoundly they affect us.
